Bait Casting Reels

June 01, 2011 By: admin Category: Fishing Gear

When you are fishing with live bait you want to be able to place the bait exactly where you want it. The live bait needs to look natural. A fisherman needs to cast the lure with accuracy which is why you need a bait casting reel.

Use a bait casting reels on your fishing rods because they will give you that extra degree of accuracy when you are casting towards shore or want to be right next to the log where the big bass are hiding. Here are some more extras for using bait casting reels:

  • Line will not come off the reel in a big mess of line.
  • It is easier to use heavier line when practicing with bait casting reels.
  • Use bait casting reels for the big fish because you use bigger lures and heavier lines.
  • You use your thumb for controlling the casting action on a bait casting reels. Some have a button for control and others are open.
  • Bait casting reels have centrifugal brakes inside the gears which can be adjusted as your learning.
  • Bait casting reels are best used while holding the reel portion in your hand.
  • Do not overfill the spool on a bait casing reel.
  • You want your lure to travel at the same speed the reel is moving.

Bait casting reels are best used with a 6 1/2 foot or 7 foot rod. Remember do not whip lure.
